POWDER COATING
In addition to our other value-added services and standard finishing options, the MetalFab Group offers in-house powder coating. By supplying this service in our facility, we can give you faster lead times on your parts without having to rely on third party partners for this final step in the fabrication process.
WHAT IS
POWDER COATING?
Powder coating is a popular dry finishing process used for protective and decorative finishes of metal products and parts. They come in many different colors and are applied through a process called electrostatic spray deposition, where a spray gun applies an electrostatic charge to the powder particles (think about the way your hair stands up when you rub a balloon against it!) and then sprays the powder onto the part, causing the powder to cling to the surface and form a hard outer shell.

THE BENEFITS OF
POWDER COATING
Powder coating is best known for its durability and its aesthetics. Not only does it protect rugged equipment in harsh environments–it’s also applicable in a wide range of other applications as well. Parts that are powder coated are more resistant to impact, moisture, chemicals, UV rays, and extreme weather conditions, as well as everyday wear and tear like scratches, chipping, abrasions, corrosion, and fading. Quality powder coatings can last several years, occasionally up to a couple of decades depending on what type of wear the coated part undergoes.

Not only that, but powder coating looks good too! It has a high aesthetic value and can come in many different colors. Powder coating tends to be more environmentally friendly than other finishing treatments, as it is both non toxic and less flammable than alternative options like liquid paints, while still adhering to a variety of substrates. There is also less waste involved with powder coatings, and the application of it does not release harmful chemicals like VOCs into the air.
